Schooling, Income And Health Risk (SIHR)

The 2008 SIHR was a randomized study of how income and schooling affect schoolgirl’s health and educational outcomes. IKI managed conditional cash transfers to more than 1,200 schoolgirls and their families, as well as collecting attendance records for all girls. The evaluation was designed to compare the impact of financial support on those who had dropped out of school as well as those who attended consistently; it found that cash transfers had an impact not only on schooling but also on sexual and reproductive health. The study was conducted in Zomba District.
